At-home Wellness Practices at 4 Price Points
I revel in wellness activities that are easy to use and yield legitimate results. Each of the below have held a regular place in my routine, and I am here to share why.
My ultimate dream is to have an all-inclusive spa in my home including a cold plunge, soaking tub / spa, open shower and traditional cedar sauna. Until then, I’ve collected a variety of wellness instruments that fit the bill when I am in need of a little self-care.
Read below for my favorite items at each price point.
$ Dry Brush: this nifty tool (that you can find nearly any place that sells skincare products) exfoliates your skin, can aid in lymphatic drainage and feels amazing. Though a bit of a time commitment pre-shower (~10-20 minutes), it is a lovely addition to your wellness repertoire.
I personally love having my hair brushed and the scratching feeling of this dry brush - but if you are sensitive to this kind of sensation, proceed with caution :)
$$ Facial Steamer: My favorite part of a facial is the 5-10 minutes at the beginning where steam gently wafts over your face to open pores & aid in cleansing.
Awhile back I was gifted an at-home version which is fun and relaxing, particularly on cold days. The smell of the distilled water steam is divine - akin to the earthy, burnt-rubber scent of rain on a warm day (in fairness my enjoyment of this smell may be a case of the love potion in Harry Potter that causes people to smell what is specifically enticing to them - but nevertheless I believe it is an objectively pleasant aroma).
Steam helps with product absorption. Pick a serum to use post-steam to amplify the benefits.
$$$ Solawave 4-in-1 Skincare Wand: You’ve probably seen red light therapy tools advertised for the numerous skincare benefits such as reducing wrinkles & blemishes. I’ve been using the Solawave wand for about 6 months and can honestly say it’s made a difference in my skin texture and color.
Easy to use while watching a show or enjoying some quiet time, this instrument makes you feel like a wellness master. Aside from the physical benefits, the warmth and mild vibration of the tool inspire relaxation + reflection.
I’ll be posting a full blog on this topic to show before and after results of a DIY experiment - stay tuned!
$$$$ Higher Dose Infrared Sauna Blanket: I discovered infrared saunas a few years back and have been a fan since. Though I love a traditional sit-in sauna when visiting a spa, it’s not realistic for regular use, and certainly not at home. In comes the sauna bag. This gem packs a punch offering infrared heat and 3 layers of materials that each have specific benefits (e.g., flushing out impurities).
Comfort-wise, this activity may take some getting used-to. I tend to squirm around a lot to find a comfy position but that’s mainly because I’m too lazy to set myself up in a good position at the get-go. You can customize your situation as needed for optimal comfort and deep relaxation (e.g., lay on a bed instead of the floor, prop up your head with a pillow, use a foam roller under your legs to create a natural bend).
Catch up on your favorite podcasts or curate a playlist to enjoy for the 30-45 minute at-home session. Don’t worry about falling asleep (which I have) - the bag will automatically turn off after 60 minutes.
What are your go-to at home wellness activities? I’m always looking for inspiration!
