Transform Your Life with a Game-Changing Life Hub
How did this method originate?
Ah, the dreaded weekly task of meal planning.
Week after week, I found myself struggling to remember what I’d eaten + enjoyed in the past and as a result had to slog through days of uninspired meals. Yet, I’d been meal planning and storing recipe ideas for years, nay decades. Where did all that information go and why couldn’t I find it each week when I need it most?
The same goes for macro nutrient tracking — the number of times I’ve Googled “how many calories are in hemp seeds” is astounding. And so I thought to myself, there has to be a more efficient way of tackling repetitive life tasks. One slow day I proactively compiled all my most used life information into a central location that was easily accessible/navigable, organized and aesthetically pleasing — and called it a Life Hub.
The Cliff notes
A Life Hub
Is a central location for all of life’s data — a space to reference data and actively manage life activities
Saves you time by mitigating redundant efforts so that you have more time to enjoy life’s pleasures
Relieves your mind of daily stressors, worries and swirling thoughts by moving everything from your brain to a customized database
Has endless applications and can grow with you (and your family) over time
Life Roots is a course that shows you how to create a personalized Life Hub from scratch
What exactly is a “Life Hub”?
A Life Hub is a one-stop shop for any an all life data that you need or want to capture.
It is a reference database for information that you found, learned or created that you want to keep handy in case you need to call upon it in the future.
It is a portal to house processes, lessons learned, musings and critical data.
It is a working space to manage projects, create lists, save inspiration pictures, capture notes and more.
By proactively and regularly documenting this data, managing your life tasks will become quicker and more effective leaving you more time in your day.
My Life Hub lives in a platform called Milanote which enables you to cleanly organize data in any number of “boards” that each contain a specific purpose or set of data. An organized Life Hub enables you to easily locate pertinent information.
Main categories represents a primary, broad scope topic — e.g., Home, Children, Health, Work
Subtopics represent more specific topics that fall within a main category — e.g., Home decor, Activity calendar, Fitness tracker, Admin center
Inside each subtopic board is one or more finite topics — e.g., Mudroom refresh, Summer camp schedule, Hiking log, July meeting minutes
Individual topics can be initially visible within a subtopic board (e.g., you see it front & center) or nested in additional boards for further organization
Milanote includes various elements such as Notes, To-do lists, Images, Arrows, Tables and Links to help you build and personalize your content in any manner that works for you. Additional features such as sharing boards, assigning task owners, adding due dates and utilizing custom color schemes make this platform an ideal place to maintain your Life Hub while minimizing external applications.
Once you’ve identified the content to include in your Life Hub, regular maintenance is key. You’ll access the hub to log information, track project progress, update due dates, brainstorm, etc.
The idea is to manage as many life activities within this central location as possible to mitigate duplicative documentation, leverage previously created content, and simplify your daily responsibilities by streamlining your “life maintenance” processes.
MY Life Hub in Action
A quick look at some of the pages in my Life Hub.
How MY life hub benefits me
My Life Hub has evolved over time, and I am constantly finding new uses and ways to organize content. Here are the primary ways in which I utilize my Life Hub (+ a few examples per bucket).
Repetitive life tasks
Document meal plans, grocery lists, fitness routines, outfits + more
Design weekly, quarterly + annual cleaning schedules
Maintain inventories of critical home, food & beverage + personal items
List talking points for friends or family members to reference during our next visit / call (e.g., funny occurrences, ideas, updates, questions)
Reference information
Notate the location of important items around the house
Track pertinent details about pet health + wellness
Store help guides (manuals, YouTube videos) for home maintenance activities
Log home facts like paint colors, install dates + HOA requirements
Planning + collaboration
Create seasonal bucket lists and track notes + progress
Develop + practice hobbies
Curate gift lists + brainstorm DIY ideas
Work with family or friends on projects (e.g., decor refresh, milestone party, custom gift) in a shared location
PRO TIPS
Capture thoughts + notes for future reference (e.g., liked xyz recipe because of A & B or xyz fitness routine was extra challenging + sweaty)
An archive system is integral to this method. Move obsolete information out of your primary working space, but save it for historical reference
Utilize a rating system where possible for a quick snapshot of things that you like / dislike or things that worked well or did not
Leverage digital files in your Life Hub for a functional + aesthetic boost (e.g., save screenshots of skincare routine cards, infographics, etc. in your Life Hub for quick reference + inspiration)
Review content regularly and make an effort to document as much as you can so that your Life Hub works best for you — Garbage in = garbage out.
Choose a format that best suits your lifestyle + working preferences
My Life Hub as pictured in this post is housed in Milanote, but other variations may include Goodnotes, Notion, Excel or a paper planner or binder
Utilize Search functions in digital formats to save time & mitigate redundant efforts
